Amazon Alexa gives Markham voters hands-free election information at home & on-the-go

These days, lots of people rely on smart devices to answer all kinds of questions they have in their daily lives. These include anything from the weather, pop culture, politics, the latest news and more!

“Life can get busy, and often we have our hands full with other commitments,” said Kimberley Kitteringham, City Clerk & Returning Officer, Elections Markham. “Giving voters a hands-free option to get important election information seemed like the perfect fit to help keep them informed and engaged in local democracy!”

Elections Markham is always working to meet voters where they are – making it easier for them have their say in the 2022 Markham Municipal Election.

This is the latest addition in a series of customer service enhancements introduced by Elections Markham. Adding Amazon Alexa to the municipal election allows the City of Markham to continue enhancing the voter experience, breaking down barriers, and empowering all voters to exercise their democratic right to vote.

Getting started:

Amazon Alexa-enabled devices

  • Say “Alexa, open Elections Markham” to enable the elections function on your device (you only have to do this once!)

iPhone users

  • Download the Alexa app from the App Store
  • Say “Alexa, open Elections Markham” to enable the elections function on your device (you only have to do this once!)

Android users

  • Download the Alexa app from Google Play
  • Say “Alexa, open Elections Markham” to enable the elections function on your device (you only have to do this once!)

Once you’ve done this, you’re good to go!
