Can't make it to a voting place?

We can provide additional support for persons requiring an accommodation, including proxy voting and home visits for persons unable to leave their home due to chronic illness, injury or disability.

A voter who is unable to vote in person can appoint another person to vote on their behalf at a voting place. A voting proxy must be appointed by the voter in writing using a specific form available by request from Elections Markham, and is subject to the following criteria and limits:
  • The person acting as the voting proxy must be an eligible Markham voter;
  • A voter can only appoint one person at their voting proxy;
  • A person can only act as a voting proxy for one voter who they are not related to, but can vote for more than one relative (spouse, child, sibling, grandparent, or grandchild);
  • A person acting as an executor or trustee (or in any other representative capacity) is still required to be appointed through a voting proxy appointment form.
Voters interested in voting by proxy can request a voting proxy appointment form. The request must be made by the voter appointing the proxy, not the person being appointed.

Voters who are unable to leave their home due to chronic illness, injury or disability can request to be issued a ballot at their residence.

Election officials will hand deliver the ballot, wait outside for the voter to finish marking the ballot, and return it to Elections Markham Headquarters for tabulation.

Eligible voters can contact Elections Markham to request a home visit until September 27 at 12 PM (noon).
